Miss United States 2010 Jessica Black Interviews with NTDTV World News

I wish I could perfectly describe in words, just how excited I was to Interview with Host Serene Lee on NTDTV last night.

The camera's and lights where all set and I had the chance to tell the world my views and passions. Most importantly I got to dispel some of the negative stereo types placed on pageants by our society.

Serene and I did a 30 min interview about my life and my journey as Miss United States this year. Serene asked me lots of questions about my family, friends and hobbies. It was so much fun to be in such an intimate setting and just talk about my personal life and experiences. I even got to end the segment with some words in Chinese to show my respect for NTDTV's Chinese Viewers.

The show will be broadcasted all over the world, in places like Austria, Germany, South Korea, Italy, France and South America. NTDTV stands for truth, piece, love and respect; I was honored to be asked to do the television interview with this international station.

Interview with Pageant Planet - Miss United States 2010 Behind the Scenes

Miss United States 2010 Behind the Scenes

jessicablack Miss United States 2010 Behind the Scenes
Miss United States 2010
The Miss United States Organization is another rapidly growing pageant system in America. A few weeks ago we had the opportunity to interview Jessica Black, the reigning Miss United States 2010.  In her interview she shares about her personal growth through pageantry and how she developed a true heart for leadership.
Q: Jessica you are the FIRST Miss United States to be interviewed for the Pageant Planet! How does that make you feel?
Jessica: I feel tremendously excited and honored. Pageant Planet is a fantastic outlet to the world of pageantry and has an enormous following.  I’m thrilled to be the first young woman to represent the United States Pageant System on The Pageant Planet!

Why the Miss United States Pageant?

Q: You competed in both the Miss Georgia America and USA systems prior to winning the title of Miss United States 2010.  How did you learn about the Miss United States pageant?
Jessica: Like most young women I grew up with my family around the Television, watchingMiss America, dreaming that I would one day be as graceful and talented as those stunning women. Then latter Miss USA System came to the forefront for most home television watchers. However, a few years ago I learned there was a third National System, a system that was very well know and also competed in Las Vegas on an amazing national stage with contestant from all over the US. I learned this system was called Miss United States and it had an incredible prize package and a chance for young women to promote their platforms all across the US. I visited the state website first and was very impressed –www.missgeorgiaunitedstates.com.

Motivation for Miss United States

Q: After not winning the title of Miss Georgia America or Miss Georgia USA what motivated you to continue competing in pageantry?
Jessica: That’s a really great question! The title of the Miss United States System is what made me compete again. “Dare to Dream, Take the Journey”.  I’m sure dozen of young women can relate to my story, after being a runner-up in the other two systems, I tried my best not to get frustrated. Each time I would say… “Hey, you did great, but what can you do better next time”. Just when I was about to thrown in the towel and hang up my pageant career, I came across the Miss United States System. I read in bold writing on their website “Dare to dream, Take the Journey” and it really made me want to not give up and continue to work towards my dreams of walking across a national stage. One of my friends, who had also competed in the Miss America and Miss USA systems, had competed in the Miss United States System and loved it. She explained to me that it was a wonderful mix between the Miss America & Miss USA systems. She told me she felt it was a very fair system to compete in and encouraged me to give the state pageant a shot.  I say to all women who are searching for a fun and realistic chance to compete – Miss United States is the system for you!
Q: Over the years you have been able to nurture and develop your platform statement.  What have you learned about service and leadership during that developmental phase?
Jessica: I learned there is no limit to volunteerism. When I first started in the Miss America System I had one platform and stuck to only that organization. As my platform statement has developed, I’ve learned to lend my hand to multiple service and non-profit organizations and bring a bigger impact back to my community. I now support Children’s Miracle Network, Children’s Hospital of Atlanta, The Ronald McDonald House, Make a Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots and many others amazing organizations.
The most important thing I’ve learned is now more than ever, our youth are in need of guidance and stronger role models. I’ve learned the importance of my role as a titleholder, to continue to help guide the youth around me to encourage them to volunteer and to give back to their communities. Everyone can make a difference, even if it’s only one person at a time.

Post Miss United States Plans

Q: What are your future plans upon crowning the next Miss United States?
Jessica:  My ultimate goal and dream is to one day starting a non-profit organization for terminally ill children and their families, that helps raise awareness and funds for research and patient care. I hope Miss United States is just one small step in my life’s journey of giving back to others!

Television Interview - 11Alive Atl&Co - Benefiting the Shen Yun Performing Arts, 5000 Years of Chinese Culture

Link to video:  http://bcove.me/ir283kya

Make sure you check out the 11 Alive interview from last Friday- http://bcove.me/ir283kya

Shen Yun Performing Arts Show is coming to the Cobb Galleria Center in Atlanta, Georgia on March 8th through March 10th. People have traveled from other countries to see this amazing show, it's 5000 years of Chinese Culture in the making. The shows core is performing arts - music and dance with a live orchestra that is simply amazing, it's a must see!

Frank Tian and Jing Chen from Epoch Times asked me to be a representative for the show, as a spokes person for Shen Yung it's an honor to represent such an amazing production.

“Shen Yun” in Mandarin Chinese actually means - “Shen” means something along the lines of “Divine”. Yun refers to beauty. “Shen Yun” together can be translated as “the beauty of divine being’s dancing”. That is because the 5000 years of ancient Chinese culture is considered to be divinely inspired.

You should expect a very dynamic show. At the core of a Shen Yun Performing Arts show is music and dance. And classical Chinese dance as well as ethnic and folk dances. And the dance is accompanied by an orchestra that combines classical Western and Chinese instruments in a very unique way. The costumes are beautiful and handmade and very bright and colorful. And backdrops that brings the whole stage to life in a 3 dimensional kind of way.
It's meant for everyone. Shen Yun artists would like to share their divinely inspired cultural heritage of humanity to everyone. People of all age and cultural backgrounds come to embrace it.

Celebrity Judge -Artist Trifecta - Fashion Uncorked Event, Funds Raised for the Easter Seals Charity

Celebrity Judge -Artist Trifecta - Fashion Uncorked Event

It was an honor to chosen as one of the judge for the Artist Trifecta's Fashion Uncorked Event this past Saturday Evening in Atlanta, GA. If you where in attendance on Saturday night you probably felt like you had some how walked into a New York Art and Fashion show. The surroundings where artistic and breath taking, a jolt of raw fashion dropped right from the sky in the middle of down town Atlanta.

All of the designers that competed in the design competition where absolutely amazing and cutting edge, however one stood out to the judging panel as well as the crowd that was Angelica Cuervo. Angelica's design's where screaming runway, she combined the color blocking from her day wear into the main pattern for her evening wear. She was inspired by the 70's era, designing a high waist pant that was a vibrant orange and captivated the runway. Clearly Angelica's designs where a crowd favorite. After meeting the designer herself and listing to her talk about her inspiration for the creations, as judges we found our clear winner. Angelica earned her grand prize, a trip to NYC to study under a famous designer hands down. What Artist Trifecta did for these inspiring designers here in Atlanta and the charitable organization Easter Seals was nothing short of amazing, I was honored to be a part of such a special event.

Mrs. Monica Pearson, news anchor chair at WSB TV Channel 2 of Atlanta was the Mistress of Ceremony for the Fashion Uncorked Event. She did an amazing job!
